A quarter of women of reproductive age in India are undernourished, with a body mass index (BMI) of less than 18.5 kg/m (Source: NFHS 4 2015-16). It is well known that an undernourished mother inevitably gives birth to an undernourished baby, perpetuating an intergenerational cycle of undernutrition. Children of malnourished women are more likely to face cognitive impairments, short stature, lower resistance to infections, and a higher risk of disease and death throughout their lives.

Malnutrition in women is related to poverty, lack of development, lack of awareness and illiteracy in these downtrodden villages. In a recent study, percentage wise malnourished females are 25.2% as compared to males (20.2%). A wide variety of development actions are needed to improve their food security and nutrition of women. Common micronutrient deficiencies include a lack of iron, iodine, and vitamin A.

The Saigram Charitable Trust, Sai Gramam, Gudalur, is planning to concentrate more on the plight of poor womenfolk, in which we plan the girl children ranging from 09 years to 19 years be identified and provide them nutrition rich food, education and necessary medicine and supplements till they attain the age of 20. In the present situation, we are running short of resources for the above noble cause and hence approaching your goodness for a kind gesture. The Ayurveda facilities are available in our sister concern M/S Saigram Ayurveda Hospital and Research institute.

A combined effort of our hospital and the kind contributions would be a definite step in rehabilitating the girl children. The contributions to our trust are exempted from income tax under section 80G & 12AA.

Your generosity and kind-heartedness will go a long way in addressing the concern of the natives of this village.
